A music journey with Alexandros Drakos Ktistakis’ compositions
at International Andros Festival 2026
On Monday 10 August, the 12th International Andros Festival hosts the musical performance “Music Paths” with music and songs by composer and musician Alexandros Drakos Ktistakis, accompanied by a large orchestra of exceptional musicians.
Having carved many different musical paths during his rich compositional and performing career in Greece and abroad, Alexandros Drakos Ktistakis returns to his homeland through a musical anthology that summarises his artistic career and most important creative pursuits to date.
A guest of this year’s Andros Festival, with talented musicians and soloists by his side, Ktistakis presents an anthology from the entirety of his artistic activity, connecting different moments and milestones of his creative journey.
From America to China and from Epidaurus to Crete, his compositions form a diverse musical landscape that combines his personal discography, music for the theatre, as well as works that converse with Greek poetry and tradition.
The expressiveness of classical music, the freedom of improvisation and the colours of Greek tradition meet and transform on stage, resulting in a contemporary sound that is divided into three sections; theatre, songs inspired by Greek poets and the Cretan Suite, a contemporary work with strong influences from Cretan tradition, which Ktistakis recently presented in his hometown, Heraklion, closing a long cycle of personal and artistic quest.
The presence of Alkmini, with her deeply expressive and lyrical voice, gives compositions a special sensitivity and acts as a connecting link between the different musical sections of the performance.
The combination of the string quartet with saxophone and the acoustic ensemble creates a rich soundscape, transforming the August evening into a magical artistic journey. Through this anthology, the roots of Greek music are organically connected with contemporary creation, offering a clear picture of the musical journey of Alexandros Drakos Ktistakis, who loves to combine and explore different cultural paths.
