Under the artistic direction of renowned director Pantelis Voulgaris, the 12th International Andros Festival presents a diverse, high-quality programme with acclaimed theatrical productions, concerts, film screenings and activities for children and adults, which will be hosted at the Open-air Theatre of Andros Town.<\/p>\n
The Festival begins on Saturday 25 July 2026 with Aleka Kanellidou\u2019s concert, featuring guest singers Eleonora Zouganeli and Katerina Polemi, and ends on Monday 24 August 2026 with Euripides’ \u201cMedea\u201d, directed by Nikita Milivojevi\u0107.<\/p>\n
The premiere of the documentary \u201cLefteris Vogiatzis\u2019 Andros\u201d, directed by Ilias Giannakakis and produced by Andros Festival itself, holds a special place in this year\u2019s programme. The play \u201cHappy Days\u201d by S. Beckett, directed by Dimitri Tarlow in collaboration with Poreia Theatre, will also premiere in Andros.<\/p>\n
For the first time, the courtyard of the Byzantine Church of Taxiarches in Messaria will host a classical music concert, under the musical direction of Ioakim Baltsavias. One of the Festival\u2019s goals is to promote the island\u2019s landmarks; hence, it is important that this concert will be held in a place other than the Open-air Theatre.<\/p>\n
The programme also includes Aristophanes\u2019 \u201cPeace\u201d, co-produced by the Athens Epidaurus Festival and directed by Nikos Karathanos; the play \u201cSexy Laundry\u201d, with Spiros Papadopoulos and Renia Louizidou; and remarkable musicians, such as Dimitris Mpasis, Maria Papageorgiou and Martha Frintzila.<\/p>\n
Children will have the opportunity to enjoy the theatrical play \u201cMr Stink\u201d and the concert \u201cIf You Hear the Children\u201d with Lefteris Eleftheriou and Alkiviadis Konstantopoulos.<\/p>\n
Every year, Andros\u2019 significant cultural institutions are also present in the Festival. Kaireios Library organises the photography exhibition \u201cThe Life and Times of the People of Andros\u201d in collaboration with the Festival. The exhibition will be hosted at the House of Michael E. Kidonieos from July 2026 to September 2026. The Philharmonic Orchestra of Andros\u2019 Music Association will hold a tribute concert to Giorgos Katsaros.<\/p>\n
The Festival is organised by the not-for-profit organisation Friends of the Andros Festival, with the support of the municipality of Andros and the contribution of sponsors, volunteers and locals who support the Festival year after year.<\/p>\n

The Andros Festival was born out of the need for a vibrant cultural core on the island. Year after year, this goal has become a reality thanks to the love of the audience and the participation of artists. And it goes on.<\/p>\n
In a fast-paced and often noisy era, theatre, music and cinema continue to unite us in a deep and meaningful way. They remind us that we still need to experience emotions together, to listen, to look and to share.<\/p>\n
Andros has its own special power. The daylight; the wind on the rocks; the courtyards; its people. And when the night falls at the theatre of Andros Town, all of these seem to converse with art.<\/p>\n
I want to thank everyone who supports this effort; the artists, the employees, the volunteers, the Municipality of Andros, the sponsors, but above all the audience that every year fills the theatre, giving this festival a reason to exist.<\/p>\n

Its construction was inspired and mainly funded by Alkiviades Tattos, who comes from Andros.The theatre is built on an idyllic hillside which is protected from the wind and gives panoramic view of the south.<\/p>\n \u2018A theatre that looks like it has been there forever\u2019; this was the original idea of the architects Kiriaki Kondylatou and Konstantinos Loukos, who undertook the implementation of this ambitious idea.<\/p>\n The open stage of the theatre reminds of the architecture of classical stages and is one of the most daring interventions in the public space of Andros.The construction works began in July 2014 in a plot of land ownedbythemunicipalityofAndros.
