Some years ago, I read a perceptive comment of one of Manos Katrakis’ keen admirers: “I know that Katrakis is anxious each time he goes on stage, and so is the viewer. A few seconds before the stage lights are turned on, I wonder if what I am about to see will meet my expectations”.
In about 30 nights, in the deep silence into the darkness at the open-air theatre of Andros, my heart will be beating for the performances we have selected to present in this year’s festival.
The light of the first floodlight on stage, the gentle fingers of the pianist at the beginning of a performance, the colourful faces of the actors a few seconds before the first word is spoken, all these things make me calm.
It’s time for our souls to be purified…
